Putin: Russia pays great intention to supporting cessation of hostilities in Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Wednesday that Russia pays great intention to the measures of supporting the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria and the fight against terrorist organizations.

In a message sent to the Arab League summit that is held in Jordan, Putin said that the Middle East and North Africa are currently going through very difficult times, and the crises are still there in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, in addition to the continuation of terrorist escalation and extremism and the exacerbation of social and economic problems, and that all this increases the demand for the role of regional organizations as a multilateral mechanism for dialogue and coordination of collective efforts.

“Russia plans to boost interaction with the Arab League to help find early political and diplomatic solutions to regional crises as well as facilitate the post-conflict reconstruction of the affected territories,” Putin said in the message.

“We will continue to take measures aimed at strengthening the Syrian ceasefire, fighting terror groups active in the country, providing humanitarian aid to civilians and advancing the political process,” he added.

Putin emphasized that the main factor in stabilizing the region is finding a solution to the Palestinian cause.

He stated that the further development of meaningful ties between Russia and the Arab League is in the interests of the countries’ peoples as it would help enhance global security and stability.
