Damascus, SANA – Under the title “Generations”, the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra held a classical music concert at Opera Theatre in Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts.
The musicians played several musical compositions touching the hearts of audiences who were delighted with the Orchestra’s world-class performance and the purity of harmony.
In the second section, the Orchestra accompanied the young Syrian expat clarinetist Jerjes al-Abdullah in playing Carl Maria Von Weber’s Concerto No.2 for clarinet and orchestra.
Later on, the international Pianist Professor Ghazwan al-Zarkali joined the Orchestra in performing a musical composition by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The concert wrapped up with performing a musical piece that addressed the suffering of the homeland and purified the soul from its pains with hope of victory and life.
The Orchestra’s Conductor Missak Baghboudarian said that this event brought together veteran and young musicians with aim to honor the formers for their expertise and great contributions and prepare the young generation to represent their country in the future.
Al-Zarkali, who is a solo pianist and an international judge in piano competitions, said that today’s concert conveys a message that despite the current war and difficult circumstances in Syria, the Will of life has won over death and stressed the Syrians’ ability to build educated and well-qualified generations.
Al-Zarkali studied music in Damascus, Berlin and Moscow and continued his academic attainment to become a Professor and teach music in several countries. He also represented Syria in more than 27 countries around the world.
For his part, Clarinetist al-Abdullah said that this is his first participation and aims at helping the audience overcome the cruelty of war and encouraging musicians to visit and participate in concerts in Syria, the land of amity and peace.
He added that he decided to come back to the homeland after six years of absence full of fears and deep concerns over the war taking place in the country.
Al-Abdullah is 25-year-old solo player. He participated in different concerts and festivals inside Syria and abroad and ranked in the first place in several international and Arab competitions.
The Syrian National Symphony Orchestra was founded by Sulhi al-Wadi in 1993.
Since its foundation, the Orchestra has spared no effort to spread the culture of music in Syria and improve the performance of its musicians in order to represent the homeland in international circles and delight the audience with international musical masterpieces.
