Rouhani receives Khamis, reaffirms Iran’s support for the Syrian people

Tehran, SANA – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday received Prime Minister Imad Khamis, affirming to him that Iran will continue supporting the Syrian people, and that the liberation of Aleppo and the cessation of combat activities are two important steps towards establishing peace and stability in Syria.

Rouhani congratulated the Syrian people over the recent achievements in the fight against terrorism, saying that the liberation of Aleppo shows the strength of the Syrian people, asserting that terrorists will not achieve their goals.

The Iranian President reiterated that the Syrian people alone are the ones to decide Syria’s future, hoping that the Astana talks will lead to actual results.

He also stressed the need to make use of opportunities and resources to bolster partnership between the two countries.

For his part,  Khamis conveyed President Bashar al-Assad’s greetings to President Rouhani and wished further progress and prosperity to the Iranian people.

Khamis offered condolences to Iran’s government and people over the passing of Iran’s former President and Head of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

The Prime Minister said that the liberation of Aleppo is the result of the Syrians steadfastness, the Syrian Arab Army’s sacrifices, and the support of Iran, affirming that Syria’s government and people are determined to confront terrorists and restore security and stability.

He also voided hope that the Astana talks will lead to establishing peace and stability in Syria, stressing the need to strengthen relations between Syria and Iran.

Premier Khamis also met Advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution on International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, who affirmed Iran will continue supporting Syria until terrorism is defeated and victory is achieved.

He also met Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council Ali Larijani, who said that Iran will continue supporting Syria because they stand in the same trench and share a mutual strategy, asserting that victory over terrorism is inevitable.
