Damascus, SANA – Health Minister Nizar Yazigi discussed on Monday with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Ali al-Zaatari mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between the two sides for meeting the increasing needs of the health sector.
The Health Minister called for providing help in lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, whose repercussions left negative impacts on the health sector, particularly in terms of providing medical equipment and the qualitative medicines such as cancer and chronic diseases drugs.
Yazigi clarified that the Ministry continues to provide and deliver the free medical services and medicines to the citizens in all provinces without any discrimination in parallel to facilitating the delivery of drugs and medical assistance to unsafe areas, calling upon the international organizations working in the health sector to provide support for rehabilitation works of the affected hospitals and health centers in the provinces.
For his part, al-Zaatari said that the economic measures imposed on the health sector in Syria are “unacceptable”, promising to work with other international organizations to call for lifting them.
He expressed readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Health to confront the obstacles that hinder the health sector, in addition to working on putting the rehabilitation of health facilities on the top priorities within the Humanitarian Response Plan in Syria.
The constant terrorist attacks on the health sector left 36 hospitals and 510 out of service and dozens of health staffs dead or injured.
