Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed Thursday that the West seeks to prevent attacking Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Syria to take advantage of it.
During a press conference with Benin’s foreign minister in Moscow, Lavrov said that the UN Security Council recently condemned the use of civilians as human shields by ISIS in the Iraqi city of Mosul but it didn’t do the same thing against the practices of Jabhat al-Nusra in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo.
“Our Western partners in this situation are in no hurry to raise their voice against this absolutely inhuman practice, which again suggests that the West is ready to fight against ISIS, but still shields al-Nusra, apparently still harboring calculations in respect to the illegal group,” Lavrov stressed.
The Russian Minister pointed out that Moscow is concerned that the international community’s efforts regarding overcoming the crises in Syria, Iraq and other areas should be transparent, fair and not accompanied with attempts to achieve certain geopolitical goals.
He added that Americans invented the “parallel harm” term to describe civilian victims during the military operations, emphasizing that Russian Defense Ministry always affirms that the Russian Aerospace Forces which offer assistance to the Syrian government are taking all possible measures to avoid targeting civilians.
The Minister noted that the Russian Defense Ministry called for providing evidences and facts about the accusations of Russian forces of targeting civilian sites, schools and so on, but no one offered anything like that so far, stressing that Moscow is ready to investigate any evidences in this regard.
