Information Minister stresses need to develop mass media work mechanisms and quality

Damascus, SANA – Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tourjman stressed the need to develop mass media work mechanisms and quality, boost trust among citizens, uncover mistakes and resolve them, and building a strategic vision for the future.

During the activities of the 6th Conference of Journalists Union on Saturday, Tourjman said that timeframes and executive mechanisms have been implemented for a number of project including a new mass media law currently being worked on, in addition to supporting the private sector, and training.

He said that one way to boost trust between citizens and mass media is restructuring media establishments, noting that investigative journalism is one of the most important and difficult types of mass media work.

The activities of the 6th Conference of Journalists Union kicked off earlier on Saturday at the Damascus-based al-Assad Library under the title of “When media institutes touch interests of citizens they contribute to boosting the popular basis supporting states institutes.

The participants in the two-day conference will discuss the reports of social aid, and retirement, a number of proposals to amend the Journalists Union Law, establishing more than one syndicate and electing the union councils and the retirement and cooperative funds.

In a speech during the opening of the Conference, Assistant Regional Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal al-Hilal stressed the role of the national media of all its parts in divulging the conspiracy that is hatched against Syria.

He added that the national media has a pioneer role in introducing the problems and sufferings of citizens to the decision makers, and thus helping find solutions to them.

For his part, Chairman of Journalists Union Elias Murad pointed out to the role of the national media in divulging the truth to the public opinion in a way that boosts the popular basis supporting states institutes.
