Damascus, SANA- The most prominent programs of the United Nations Population Fund “UNPFA” and the fields of its work in Syria, the role of the media in enhancing the social awareness on its services, the targeted categories and the mechanisms of reaching them were discussed Monday during a workshop organized by the UNPFA in cooperation with Information Ministry at al-Sham Hotel.
Assistant of the UNFPA Representative in Syria Omer Ballan said that the cooperation program signed with Syria for the years 2016 and 2017 focuses on three axes which are the reproductive health, combating the gender-based violence and supporting the youths and integrating them into the society.
Ballan indicated that during the years of the crisis there has been a pressing need for collecting data and information on the population issues, affirming the role of media in increasing the social awareness in the domain of reproductive health.
For his part, Director of the Developmental Media at the Ministry of Information Ammar Ghazali referred to the strong partnership between the ministry and the UNPFA which aims at spreading awareness on population issues and correcting the misconceptions related to them.
Participants in the workshop discussed the gender-based violence, the reproductive health services which are supported by the UNPFA and the support provided by the Fund to the youths with the aim of enhancing their abilities and helping them carry out small projects in various domains in coordination with 21 civil societies.
By the end of the past year, the UNPFA in Syria in cooperation with the Ministry of Information launched a 16-day campaign to eliminate violence against women.
