Lavrov: Situation in Turkey has no impact on agreements with Syria about combating terrorism

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Monday that the prevailing situation in Turkey following the coup attempt, which took place last Friday, does not affect the implementation of agreements with Syria on the joint fight against terrorism.

Lavrov, at a press conference with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva in Moscow, said that the developments around Turkey’s Incirlik airbase will not have an impact on the missions of Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria.

He pointed out that the Russian Aerospace Force activities in Syria are based on the signed agreements between Moscow and Damascus in response to a request from Syrian government.

Lavrov pointed out to the need for intensifying efforts of the international community to overcome crises in Syria and Libya and combat ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations.
