New York, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said that the protection and consolidation of the human rights is a noble matter that requires all the UN member
states to be engaged in.
“This issue should not be used by certain parties to promote terrorism and spread chaos,” al-Jaafari said in a statement on Wednesday before the two- day debate on the human rights at the UN General Assembly in New York.
” It is better for states and parties who claim commitment to the protection of human rights to stop blatant interference in the internal affairs of other states under flimsy and baseless pretexts
and names,” he said, demanding those countries to abide by the UN Charter and the international law provisions that oblige all countries to respect the states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity
and independence of their political decision.
Al-Jaafari blasted some countries deliberate ignorance of the economic suffering of the Syrian people due to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria for five years that worsened the living conditions of most Syrians.
He criticized the western countries’ double-and multiple standards in dealing with the human rights issue as those countries legitimize their violation of the human rights in other countries under the pretext of protecting those rights.
“Some countries give themselves the right to violate human rights in other countries under the pretext of protection of these rights and kill under the pretext of protecting civilians,” the Permanent Representative said.
He pointed out that the issue of the refugees, mainly the Syrians, has been exploited to target the Syrian government or to make a deal at the expense of those who are fleeing the hell of terrorism.
