Damascus, SANA – “A Piece of Bread” initiative has launched its activities for the second year during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Its organizers’ plan is to provide and distribute 5,000-15,000 meals daily to poor and displaced families in Damascus city and its countryside.
Sae’d Abdul-Ghani, Director of the initiative’s team, said they will try to achieve the goal of distributing the largest possible number of meals depending on the size of donations.
He added that the aim is to provide assistance to needy people and families who were displaced from terrorism-stricken areas and reduce the financial burdens imposed on them due to the increase in the prices of goods and the loss of breadwinners and job opportunities caused by the ongoing terrorist war in the country.
Working in cooperation with a number of charity associations, “A Piece of Bread” initiative was launched last Ramadan, during which 130,000 meals were distributed in Damascus and its countryside.
There are over 800 volunteers involved in the initiative, according to Abdul-Ghani, who noted that 150 to 170 volunteers work daily within three shifts.
