Hasaka, SANA – Around 800 Basic Education students from Tal Abyad and Ayn al-Arab areas have crossed about 300 kilometers to reach Hasaka city to take their final exams, in defiance of terrorism and insistence on their right to learn and to continue their normal lives.
The educational process in those areas, located in northern Syria on the border with Turkey, has been long suspended as terrorist organizations that spread there systematically attacked educational staffs and shelled and destroyed schools, while turning others into jails where they held those who disagreed with their terrorist and obscurantist mentality.
Hasaka Education Directorate, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All The East and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) cooperated together to let this exam taking effort succeed, having provided all the accommodations and education requirements for the arriving students.
Two fully-equipped makeshift centers has been set up for the purpose; the one prepared at al-Buhturi School currently accommodates 152 students and the other at the Nursing School hosts 116. Teaching staffs have been also provided to conduct supporting courses for the students before the exams.
“Terrorist organizations prevented me and my colleagues from learning for more than 3 years, but we will not allow terrorism to deprive us of our right to learn and we will continue our lives,” Osama Ibrahim, one of the students who are taking the final Basic Education exams in Hasaka, told SANA.
Around 21,000 students in Hasaka province are taking the exams, which started on May 15, at 172 centers, including 89 centers in Hasaka city and 72 in Qamishli city, in addition to others dedicated for students from the provinces of Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Aleppo.
