De Mistura voices optimism over resuming dialogue in Geneva soon

Vienna, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Wednesday voiced optimism over resuming the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva soon.

In a statement to journalists in Venna, de Mistura said he feels comfortable enough to clarify to the Syrian people and the international community that the talks can be resumed because it’s obvious that there can be no military solution for the crisis.

He said that the talks must be resumed as soon as possible and not delay them, otherwise momentum would be lost, stressing that the sides participating in the dialogue must take into account that the month of Ramadan will begin on June 6th.

The International Syria Support Group (ISSG) had called after its meeting on Tuesday for resuming the dialogue in Geneva, strengthening the cessation of hostilities agreement, and having the “armed opposition” groups distance themselves geographically and ideologically from ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terror organizations.
