Bilateral cooperation fields to be expanded between Syria and Cuba

Havana, SANA, Cuba expressed its readiness to provide Syria with the necessary available pharmaceutical materials based on the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and people and the political and humanitarian commitment towards Syria in its current circumstances, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, Ricardo Cabrisas told Adib Mayalleh, the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria and the accompanying delegation during a meeting in Havana Saturday.

Cabrisas also expressed Cuba’s readiness to expand cooperation between the two countries in different fields of economy, trade, agriculture and education by making use of friendship, solidarity, joint ties and political will and desire from both friendly countries.

The Cuban official indicated that his country is still adherent to its principles of standing by the peoples who defend their sovereignty and independence in the face of imperialist aggression and conspiracies.

Earlier Saturday, the visiting Syrian delegation met with the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca who affirmed that Cuba and Syria share joint vision and political stances towards different issues and reject
foreign interference in the countries’ internal affairs since both countries are in self-defense positions.

Malmierca hailed Syria’s steadfastness in the face of the aggression it is exposed to. Syria is still strong and achieves daily victories and we have to provide it with assistance in its fight and defense against such continuous aggression, he said, focusing on the necessity of finding out new fields for cooperation and keeping contacts for promoting investment opportunities which could be invested later.

For his part, Mayalleh briefed the Cuban Minister on the circumstances which Syria has been undergoing due to five years of war, hailing Cuban people’s political stances in support of Syria and the assistance it provides in the medicine field and the constructive cooperation felicitations it shows during cooperation talks of the Syrian
delegation with the concerned Cuban sides.

Syria’s delegation Saturday meetings followed signing a banking arrangement agreement for settling debts after discussions with different Cuban medicine companies where some important results were achieved for importing pharmaceutical
materials from the Cuban four companies.

Syria and Cuba signed last December a framework agreement on cooperation between the Health Ministry on the one hand and the Cuban External Trade and Foreign Investment Ministry and the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group
(BioCubaFarma) on the other during a visit by Syria’s Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi.
