People’s Assembly passes three bills

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly approved during Tuesday’s session a bill on establishing an agency for supporting development of domestic production and exports affiliated with to the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade to replace the existing Export Development and Promotion Agency.

The new agency aims at supporting, developing, and improving local production intended for exportation and enhancing its competitiveness, in addition to supporting the activities of unions and chambers of Industry, commerce, agriculture and tourism as well as exporters’ unions.

The tasks of the commission include making plans and programs for the implementation of the strategy of development of domestic production and boosting exports.

The People’s Assembly also approved a bill on establishing an agency for developing small and medium projects to replace the existing General Agency for Employment and Project Development.

The agency aims at drawing up a guide for small and medium projects to classify them according to the size of their activities and geographic distribution, in addition to coordinating between public, private, and civil bodies and facilitating small and medium projects’ ability to access financial services.

Lastly, the Assembly approved a bill on exempting of businessmen and employers who are registered at the General Organization for Social Insurance of penalties and interests due as per the insurance law if they paid the dues within a year.
