Hama, SANA – Assistant Vice President, retired General Mohammad Nassif Kheirbek, was laid to rest on Monday in his hometown of Laqbeh in Masyaf area, Hama province.
A convoy escorted the body of the deceased from al-Shami Hospital in Damascus to al-Luqba where he was laid to rest in the family’s cemetery.
Senior Army and Armed Forces officers, State Minister for Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar, Hama Governor Ghassan Khalaf, and other official figures, political part representatives, and religious and popular figures attended the ceremony.
Some of the attendees delivering eulogies saying that the passing of Kheirbek is a great loss for Syria, as he was a man who had dedicated his life to serving his country, and his primary concern had been for Syria to overcome the crisis.
Gen. Kheirbek was born on April 10th, 1937, and joined the Syrian Arab Army in 1961. He assumed several military posts and was appointed Assistant Vice President in 2005, a position he occupied until he passed away on Sunday June 28th after a long illness.
