Al-Moallem briefs the visiting South African delegation on escalating terror threats and countries’ involvement

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met Thursday with the visiting South African delegation, headed by the Presidential Special Envoy for the Peace Process in the Middle East Zola Skweyiya.

The developments in Syria and the region and the escalating terror threats were reviewed during the meeting, with al-Moallem giving an explanation of the details of the attack on Syria and the region and its aim of spreading chaos in service of Israel and the US.

He highlighted the scale of involvement by several countries in funding, training and arming terrorists and sending them into Syria, posing a direct threat to the security and stability of the region and the world as a whole.

Al-Moallem underscored in this context the important role which South Africa, being an influential African state, could play in clearing the picture of the events in Syria and siding by the Syrian people in confronting terrorism.

He also referred to the need for a good preparation for a possible Geneva 3 meeting through consultative meetings between the Syrian sides.

Skweyiya, for his part, underscored the policy of double standards which the West follows toward Syria and the Palestinian Cause through it continuing to cover the violations which Israel commits against the Palestinian people and the crimes perpetrated by the terrorists in Syria.

He asserted that South Africa supports a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and wishes that the crisis comes to an end as soon as possible.
