Syria and UNIDO discuss joint industrial modernization program

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Industry Kamal-Eddin Toumeh discussed on Wednesday with Cristiano Pasini, the Regional Representative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) following up on the second stage of an industrial modernization and development program between Syria and UNIDO.

The program had been commenced prior to the crisis in Syria and was carried out jointly between the Syrian government and UNIDO. It was funded by the Italian government but had stopped after the crisis broke out in Syria and it is now fully funded by the Syrian government.

The minister affirmed the importance of the program in developing national industry which sustained massive damage due to terrorist attacks.

He pointed out that 35 damaged companies are now back on the production line, adding that Sheikh Najjar industrial city in Aleppo and others industrial areas in other provinces had been rehabilitated.

The minister clarified that industrial establishments and companies in Syria need the program for the financial and technical support it offers.

For his part, Pasini said that the visit aims to deliver a message for Syrian government about UNIDO interest in completing the second stage of the program, mentioning that the Syrian side had represented proposals that will be discussed with UNIDO experts.
