Iran and Iraq stress necessity of combating terrorism in the region

Tehran, SANA Iranian and Iraqi Presidents Hassan Rouhani and Fouad Massoum stressed the necessity of realizing security and stability in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and in the whole region through cooperating in fighting terrorism with all its forms.

Talks during the meeting touched upon significant regional issues, including the situation in Syria, the deteriorated situation in Yemen and the necessity of offering humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, Rouhani said in a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iranian President asserted that the discussions, also, dealt with the danger of terrorism on the region and the necessity of collectively combating terrorism, but not expelling the terrorists from Iraq as they will later gather in Syria, pointing out that those who believe that they are able to use terrorism as a tool to achieve their goals in the region are mistaken,

Rouhani expressed Iran’s readiness to offer any assistance that the Iraqi government demanded in facing terrorism, asserting that the security of Iraq is very important, as Iraq’s security is Iran’s security and stability.

Rouhani expressed support to Iraq’s territorial integrity, asserting that the Iraqi people are the ones who plan their future.

For his part, the Iraqi president pointed out that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) endangers the whole region not only Iraq, adding that the priority now for fighting terrorism in Syria as we are fighting it in Iraq. Terrorists cannot be allowed to govern Syria.
