Aleppo, SANA-The University of Aleppo has reopened the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Dentistry after a 12-year hiatus.
This department will become a free platform for treating critical cases, with a special focus on people with special needs who face challenges in receiving traditional medical services.
The department’s rehabilitation was carried out in cooperation between the University of Aleppo and the Transatlantic Relief Foundation, with logistical support from the Nabulsi Foundation and the Molham Volunteer Team.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Mahmoud Naasani, said to a SANA reporter that the department will provide free services, including general anesthesia, for patients unable to use conventional chairs.
He added that the department’s goal is to become a medical reference for all areas of northern Syria.
For his part, Humam Akbiq, head of the Transatlantic Foundation, said that the project combines both therapeutic and academic aspects. Medical students will be trained on modern techniques used for the first time in Syria, as part of a plan that includes the rehabilitation of other departments, such as pediatric surgery and urology.
The department has been equipped with the latest international surgical equipment, and its local staff has been trained by experts from the United States and Europe.
The opening of this department marks the return of life and work to Syrian academic institutions and a step toward promoting health equity in areas that have long suffered from neglect.
