Tehran, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh said that the current Israeli occupation’s escalation in our region falls within the framework of an old American-Zionist project to reshape our region, and terrorist tools are being used for this purpose.
Sabbagh’s remarks came during press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Tuesday.
Sabbagh explained that the talks have been positive and aimed at improving cooperation in all fields, for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.
Sabbagh said that We have addressed the issue of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and its extension into Lebanon and the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, amounted over 130 attacks.
He reiterated Iran’s legitimate right to defend itself and protect its territory and people.
Sabbagh indicated that Syria and Iran condemned the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation, demanding that it be held accountable for its crimes, and affirming the right of peoples to resist all forms of occupation.
He also stressed the need for ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands occupied in 1967, including the Syrian Golan, as this region will not enjoy security and stability unless the occupation is ended.
He also underlined that eradicating terrorism in all its forms and stopping some countries’ support for it is necessary for the stability of the entire region.
Sabbagh indicated that the two countries condemn the illegal coercive measures imposed on them and cooperate to confront their effects.
For his part, Araghchi reiterated that Iran is on the side of Syria and will continue to be so.
Araghchi thanked Syria and President Bashar al-Assad for the humanitarian stances represented in hosting the displaced despite the economic crisis, as it received some 500,000 displaced from Lebanon.
He added that Tehran will provide all possible assistance in this regard and calling on the international community for help.
The Iranian official condemned the Israeli acts of aggression against Syrian territory and the plundering of the natural resources of the Syrian people by the US forces illegally present in northeastern Syria.
He reiterated that any attack on Iran will not go unanswered, and this was demonstrated by Tehran during Operations Al-Waad Al-Sadiq I and II.
“Our political efforts to stop the ongoing Zionist aggression on the region are ongoing with all countries and international organizations, and we always coordinate with Syria in this regard,” Araghchi said.
He added, “The resistance in the field is confronting the Israeli attacks and it is the one that decides the fate of the region.”
