Algiers, SANA- Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, has reaffirmed the depth and strength of relations binding Syria and Algeria and the close coordination between them in various fields.
Mikdad’s remarks came in an interview with Algeria International TV Channel on the sidelines of his visit to Algeria.
The Foreign Minister referred to Algeria’s firm position in support of Syria, especially that the experience that the Algerian people went through in confronting terrorism is the same that the Syrian people went through, as they are both in the same trench against the same enemy.
“The meeting with His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune lasted for more than two hours, and this indicates that it was cordial and intimate and expressed the depth of relations between the two brotherly countries,” Mikdad said.
He noted that the message from President Bashar al-Assad which he conveyed to the Algerian President included an explanation of the developments in Syria and the region and the political moves taking place now at various levels, whether with neighboring countries or within the framework of Astana, or the visits made by many Arab officials during the past few weeks to Syria, and the visits made to Arab countries.
Mikdad added that the message was a message of love, appreciation and coordination for the identical positions of the two countries regarding various international files, and it was necessary to renew thanks and appreciation for the effort made by Algeria with regard to the issue of the return of Syria to exercise its role on the Arab level.
Regarding President al-Assad’s visits to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Sultanate of Oman, and Mikdad’s visit to Saudi Arabia, Foreign and Expatriates Minister made it clear that all Arab countries know that what Syria has been exposed to can be experienced by any Arab country.
He elaborated that these visits came due to the desire of all parties to close the page that we passed through and open a new page in the Arab-Arab relations to face the challenges targeting our countries.
“We must be together in a way that serves our common interests, achieves development in our countries, stops foreign interference in their affairs, and ends the Israeli acts of aggression against the brotherly Palestinian people, “Mikdad said.
Answering a question about Syria’s return to the Arab League, Mikdad stressed that what matters to Syria is reforming relations between Arab countries because it is the real way to make the League or joint Arab cooperation beneficial, but before correcting bilateral relations, it will be difficult to achieve this benefit as long as the differences remain within the League and the problems it suffers from in the implementation of its programs and policies.
Mikdad emphasized that Syria appreciates that most Arab countries are now beginning to understand that the path of joint Arab action is the only path that would preserve our dignity as Arabs, our rights and the rights of the Palestinian people, and keeps us away from the attacks we face from Western countries that blatantly interfere in the affairs of our countries.
He reaffirmed Syria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in confronting the Israeli crimes and acts of aggression they are exposed to on their land and holy sites, foremost of which is al-Aqsa Mosque.
He added that that these crimes and violations are inseparable from the repeated attacks carried out by the occupation on Syrian territory.
