Moscow, SANA- Specialists of US-based Ecohealth Alliance are working on enhancement of pathogenic properties of coronaviruses and the mechanism of their transmission from animals to human beings since 2015, Chief of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Force Igor Kirillov said on Monday.
The Boston University is working on enhancement of pathogenic properties of COVID-19 agent funded by the US government, Kirillov said.
“The key role in implementation of these projects belongs to Ecohealth Alliance intermediary entity. Documents of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency obtained by us evidence that since 2015, specialists of this company were studying the diversity of the population of bats, searching for new coronavirus strains and mechanisms of their transmission from animals to human beings,” the official noted.
Recommendations were given to the company staff in the project of studying zoonotic viruses in Southeast Asia that if a virus with transmission or pathogenic properties intensified more than tenfold was received as a result of experiments, specialists should promptly terminate work and inform the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the relevant bio-security council, Kirillov added.
