A project on documenting damages which affected Syrian antiquities launched

Damascus, SANA- A symposium was held Sunday in the National Museum on the situation of Syrian antiquities during the crisis to launch a new project on documenting the damages that affected the Syrian ruins according to an interactive map to be published on the General Directorate of Museums and Antiquities’ website.

2“Our Syrian human heritage was not mere an art phenomenon or an expression about social life type, but it has changed into a historic document that offers decisive answers to prove the Arabism of region and defeat the Zionist project,” Minister of Culture Issam Khalil said.

He added that the Syrian marvelous antiquities have made terrorists seek to sabotage or loot them in the framework of takfiri aggression on Syria aiming at re-drawing the reign’s map.

Ma’moun Abdul-Kareem, Director-General of the Museums and Antiquities’ Department said the symposium is very important in the sense that it was held to evaluate what has happened in Syria and to document the damages that affected the Syrian archeological sites and the kinds of damages “due to the clashes, stealing and destroying the ruins for ideological reasons.”

He added that this symposium paves the way for accomplishing the documentation of sabotage that affected the Syrian antiquities according to an interactive map to be launched on the said website during the current week.
