Damascus, SANA – A woman and two children were injured Thursday in al-Rama Street in Yarmouk Camp, a neighborhood south of Damascus hosting Palestinian refugees and Syrian citizens, when terrorists opened fire on residents to prevent them from reaching an aid distribution site.
Director General of the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR) Ali Mustafa told SANA that for the sixth consecutive week the armed terrorist organizations have been firing gun and sniper fire at the site where humanitarian aid is distributed to the besieged neighborhood’s residents.
The armed organizations’ members, he said, attacked when representatives of the GAPAR and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) arrived at the site to distribute food and other aid supplies, blocking residents from accessing the site.
As the shooting, sniper fire and shelling continued, Mustafa explained, the aid convoys and workers at the UNRWA medical center at the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) had to leave the area and went back to their headquarters in Damascus.
He however stressed that work will be resumed on Friday.
The GAPAR has since late January 2014 distributed around 56,0008 food packages and 11,618 medical supply packages, only for the distribution to be interrupted early last month when the terrorist organizations intensified their attacks to prevent aid delivery.
