Mikdad, Maurer discuss means of boosting cooperation between Syria and ICRC

Damascus, SANA-Foreign and Expatriate Minister, faysal Mikdad, discussed on Tuesday with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the accompanying delegation, means of enhance cooperation and coordination between the Syrian government and the International Red Cross.

During the meeting, Minister Mikdad expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation for the role ICRC in the humanitarian field in Syria and praised its efforts to provide humanitarian assistance in various sectors such as health, education and others.

He renewed Syria’s condemnation of the unilateral coercive sanctions adopted by the United States of America and its European allies against Syria and other countries, and the US continued support for armed terrorist groups.

Mikdad pointed out that the Syrian government keenness to facilitate the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross team in Syria to enable it to carry out its basic tasks and praised the fruitful cooperation existing between the Syrian government, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the International Red Cross.

Mikdad also reaffirmed the most important tasks of the International Red Cross in the occupied Syrian Golan to support its citizens who suffer the injustice and inhuman practices of the Israeli occupation.

Maurer, for his part, said that the International Red Cross seeks to expand its humanitarian operations and activities in Syria at various levels, especially in the domains of health, water, electricity and education in cooperation with the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Organization.
