Moscow, SANA – Russia expressed hope that an inter-Syrian dialogue will be held in Moscow soon, referring to a date by the end of January, 2015.
“We have put forward the idea. It is on the table. We are working with opposition groups in Syria. It is to be hoped the idea will be implemented soon,” Russian Tass news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying on Tuesday.
He pointed out that the UN Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will continue his efforts in that direction.
“We support what [de Mistura] has been doing: his efforts and his idea of ‘local truces.’… It may be a good starting point for the beginning of the process of stabilization in the country and for launching the negotiations,” Gatilov said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Tass agency that chances to resume dialogue on the crisis in Syria were improving, adding that it is a mistake to reject cooperation with Syria in the fight against terrorism.
