Daraa, SANA_ Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini, thanked Syria for its support of the agency’s efforts.
In a statement to journalists upon his arrival at the Nassib border crossing from Jordan on Monday, Lazzarini said that his visit to Syria aims at strengthening cooperation between the two sides and discussing the needs of Palestinian refugees.
He added that his visit to Syria is necessary because it comes at a time when Syria is affected, like other countries, by an economic and financial situation and other challenges related to the Coronavirus.
The Commissioner-General revealed that he would visit Sbeineh and Yarmouk refugee camps near Damascus to brief on the needs of the Palestinian refugees.
He affirmed that Syria plays an important role in the UNRWA advisory committee and that he will meet with the representative of the Syrian government in the aforementioned committee.
