Iwan: a heritage building for the guests

Daraa, SANA- The Iwan has been known in the Horan region in southern Syria since the 7th century AD and has become familiar with the popular name “Liwan.” Iwan al-Muzayab in Nawa is considered to be as model for this civilized building.

A researcher in the heritage and history of the southern region, Nidal Sharaf, stated that this Iwan was built in the 9th century AD, and anyone can enter to it from an arched gate to the courtyard of the house, and the guest ascends a stone stair to the second floor, two tapered stones have been set up on the top and a twisted base underneath it, each one is called Azam.
