Bangkok, SANA – Syrian athlete Mohammad Amin Salameh won a silver medal in the long jump competition at the 4th Asian Beach Games Phuket 2014 currently held in Thailand.
Salameh’s best jump which earned him the silver medal was 6.98 meters, while the gold medal went to Iranian athlete Sobhan Taherkhani who jumped 7.28 meters.
This brings the total of medals won by Syrian athletes at the Games to 6, with a total of five bronze medals having been earned earlier by Maher al-Khayat in the 90kg wrestling competition, Saleh Mohammed in the 5km and 10km swimming competitions, Nadia Assaf in the Sambo competition in the under 64kg women’s category, and Mithqal Jaramani in the Kurash tournament.
On Thursday, Ismael Battih is due to face an opponent from Tajikistan in the Muay Thai competition for the 81kg category, and Majdeddin Ghazal will participate in the high jump competition.
Around 6000 athletes from 45 countries are participating in the 4th Asian Beach Games Phuket which will be concluded on November 24.
