High-level Syrian-Belarusian talks to boost bilateral relations

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem voiced his appreciation of Belarus’s attitude in support of the Syrian leadership and people under the systematic terrorism to which the country is being subjected.

Al-Moallem was speaking at a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov and the delegation accompanying him on Tuesday during which the Syrian-Belarusian relations were discussed.

Means of boosting the bilateral relations in the economic, scientific and cultural fields and finding a mechanism to develop the work of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee to the best interests of the people of both countries were on the table.

While expressing appreciation of the Belarusian stances towards Syria, al-Moallem stressed the need that the relationship between both sides be consolidated and that the existing bilateral coordination be continued at all international forums.

The Belarusian Deputy Minister, for his part, stressed his country’s absolute support for Syria, highlighting the importance of the upcoming meetings of the Joint Committee as far as expanding cooperation and coordination is concerned.

The meeting between al-Moallem and Rybakov was preceded by a session of official talks held earlier on the day in the framework of regular political deliberations that take place between Syria and Belarus.

In the course of the talks, which were headed by Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ayman Sousan and Ryabkov, points of view were exchanged with regard to the developments in Syria and those in the regional and international arenas. The prospects of cooperation between the two countries were also key points of the discussions.

Rybakov expressed during the talks Belarus’s condemnation of the terrorism striking Syria and called for concerted international efforts for countering terrorism in the framework of the international legitimacy and in accordance with its resolutions.

He affirmed the importance of keeping away from selectivity and double standards in relation to combating terrorism efforts.

Sousan and Rybakov condemned the unilateral sanctions imposed on both Syria and Belarus that are aimed at putting pressure on the two countries, dismissing the policy of imposing sanctions as an uncivilized approach in international relations.

They saw the convening of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee, which is scheduled to be held early next year in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, as an important point in the course of developing bilateral cooperation.
