People’s Assembly discusses issues related to electricity and petroleum sectors

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly held a session on Sunday which focused on measures taken to meet citizens’ needs of electricity and fuel as well as the efforts of maintenance teams to repair damages and outrages caused by sabotage acts.

The Ministers of Electricity and Oil and Mineral Resources addressed the queries and comments of the Assembly members regarding issues and problems related to these sectors.

Members of the People’s Assembly called for following up on the situation of services and utilities in Aleppo, stressing the need for exerting more efforts to increase the ratio of power provided to the province and speeding up repairs of damage caused by terrorist attacks.

The members also inquired about the government’s upcoming procedures to reduce the rise in prices which followed the increase in fuel prices.

Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis underlined the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure providing power to all areas despite the current circumstances, adding that exceptional measures have been taken to face all challenges.

He highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to restore electricity in Aleppo province, indicating that the new legislative structure encourages the private sector to make investments in the alternative energy sector.

For his part, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Suleiman al-Abbas, pointed out that the crisis and the repeated terrorist attacks have greatly affected the oil sector and contributed to the reduction in production, not to mention the impact caused by the unjust sanctions imposed on the oil sector.

He said that providing eastern provinces with petroleum products is mainly related to the security situation and the safety of roads.
