South Africa decries Homs terrorist blasts as crime against humanity

Pretoria, SANA – Government of South Africa vehemently condemned the twin terrorist bombings that targeted a school compound in Ikrima neighborhood in the city of Homs on October 1st.

The blasts, among the ugliest carried out by terrorists in Syria since the start of the terrorist war waged against it in 2011, claimed the lives of 23 civilians, mostly children, and left 115 others injured.

International Relations and Cooperation Ministry of South Africa issued a statement in which it said the government “condemns in the strongest possible terms the latest terrorist attacks in the Syrian city of Homs.”

The statement stressed South Africa’s position that “there can’t be any justification for targeting schools and students, and hereby it unequivocally condemns this ugly crime and considers it a flagrant violation of human rights and a crime against humanity according to the international law.”

The international community was called upon by South Africa to work on halting the flow of weapons and terrorists into Syria, with the statement also asserting the need for a political solution to the crisis in it.

It also offered deep condolences to the families of the victims of Homs terrorist blasts and to the entire Syrian people and government.
