Moscow, SANA – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem, discussed in a phone call on Monday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov developments in Syria and potential ways to find a political solution for the crisis in it.
A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry said the two sides exchanged opinions on potential ways to resume efforts leading to internal reconciliation in Syria, with the two ministers asserting that the situation in Syria can only be resolved via political and diplomatic methods.
The statement said that they also discussed the recent events in Syria in light of the growing terrorist threat in it and in the region due to the crimes committed by the members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization.
In addition, Minister al-Moallem reiterated Syria’s readiness to coordinate counterterrorism steps with representatives of the international community as per the Security Council resolution no. 2170.
