New York-SANA_ The vote of the overwhelming majority of members of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee in favor of the draft resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan sent a message to the occupying entity that its occupation of the Syrian Golan is “unacceptable and violates the principles of international law,” Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, said.
In a statement during the discussions of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee on Friday, al-Jaafari thanked all the delegations that voted in favor of the draft resolutions related to the items 53 and 54, including the draft resolution entitled the occupied Syrian Golan.
He clarified that the member states, through their broad support for these resolutions, sent an unequivocal message to “Israel”, that its occupation of the Syrian Golan is “unacceptable and violates the provisions of the Charter and the principles of international law,”
The permanent representative stressed that the message clearly calls upon Israel to end its occupation of all the occupied Arab territories and immediately stop its violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, including the Fourth Geneva Conventions of 1949.
He said that the overwhelming majority vote in favor of the draft resolution reaffirms the member states’ rejection of the continued Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan.
“ It also asserts that the attempt to annex the Golan by Israel is null and void and has no legal effect in accordance with UN Security Council’s Resolution No. 497 for 1981, and therefore all such practices, including the settlement activities and cooperation with terrorist groups as a Daesh (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra in the Syrian Golan will be denounced by all those who are keen to upgrade international law, end the foreign occupation and to reject the principle of annexing the lands of others by force,” al-Jaafari said.
He indicated that “Israel” deals and cooperates with and protects Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra, in the occupied Syrian Golan, and those terrorists who abducted personnel of the UNDOF operating in the Golan, stressing that “Israel” violates Security Council resolutions that prohibit dealing with terrorism, but justifies it as a humanitarian act,”
Al-Jaafari went on to say that “the occupation entity arrested the Syrian activist, Sedqi al-Maqt , for 27 years for his rejection of the Israeli occupation, and then for another 15 years for documenting Israel ’s dealing with terrorists of Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra in the Golan,”
The permanent representative concluded by saying that “Zionism is a weapon of mass destruction, a chemical, nuclear and biological weapon as it is a violent extremist ideology spreading violence in the region.”
