President al-Assad: Terrorist project in Syria has failed

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Ansari reviewed the moves and diplomatic efforts made by Iran to support the political track of the crisis in Syria, particularly in light of the changes witnessed in the regional and international arena which have been imposed by the successes of the Syrian Arab Army and allied forces in the framework of the war on terrorism.

In turn, President al-Assad stressed the importance of the efforts exerted by Iran and other friendly countries to support the Syrian people in their resilience and fight against terrorism, asserting that the terrorist project in Syria has failed and there will be no return until restoring security and safety to the whole Syrian territory.

President al-Assad pointed out that the change in the international attitudes has been prompted by the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies, and what is more important than these attitudes is that they should be combined with actions that lead to stopping the support provided by some countries for the remaining terrorists in Syria.

Views on the issues raised during the meeting converged and it was agreed that coordination between the two countries’ officials should continue.

The meeting was attended by Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad and Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud.

In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem met Ansari and discussed with him the distinguished bilateral relations between Syria and Iran and means of enhancing them in all fields.

They also discussed the preparations for the next round of the Astana meeting which will be held in September.
