Astana, SANA_ The Syrian Arab Republic delegation, the “opposition” representatives, and the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura have been invited to Astana meeting scheduled in Kazakhstan’s capital on February 15-16 for settling the crisis in Syria, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Ministry’s statement issued Saturday on its website added that the meeting will discuss issues of the implementation of the ceasefire regime in Syria, measures to stabilize situation in particular areas, adoption of rules for a joint operational group, and agreeing further measures to consolidate the ceasefire regime, as well as other practical steps in light of the upcoming intra-Syrian talks in Geneva.
The invitations for Astana meeting were sent to the Syrian Arab Republic delegation, the “opposition” representatives, and the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura as well as the representatives of the U.S as observers.
The final statement of Astana meeting held last January 23-24 affirmed commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and that the crisis in it can only be solved through a political process. The statement also announced establishing a trilateral mechanism to observe and ensure full compliance with the ceasefire.
