Final competitions of the Syrian Science Olympiad kick off next Sunday

Damascus, SANA – Under the patronage of Mrs. Asmaa al-Assad, the final competitions of the Syrian Science Olympiad to select the winners for 2016-2017 season will kick off next Sunday in Damascus with the participation of 327 students.

“In the run-up to the finals, 49165 10th grade students from all provinces competed on schools level, with 3996 more students compared to the last year,” said Head of the National Commission for the Syrian Science Olympiad Imad al-Azb, adding that the tests were conducted in the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, IT and biology.

He highly appreciated Mrs. Al-Assad’s special care to encourage creative capacities, help them face challenges and achieve international fame.

Al-azb noted that tests will be held on January 21 – 23, adding they include two rounds of tests in the morning and in the evening, three hours each.

He added that the 11th and 12th grade students who ranked first in 2015 and 2016 finals will take part in the competitions, raising the total number of participants to 417.

Al-Azb said that the winners will be announced in the 3rd day at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts and after which an honorary ceremony of the top three winners will be held.
