Mikdad: Participation of Qatari and Saudi regimes in Astana talks can be discussed when they stop supporting terrorism

Tehran, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Midad said that the participation of the Qatari and Saudi regimes in Astana talks on resolving the crisis in Syria can be discussed when they stop supporting terrorism.

In a statement to al-Mayadeen TV on Wednesday, Mikdad said that the United States must show honest intentions in dealing with proposed solutions, stressing the need to pressure Turkey into closing its borders with Syria, prevent the support of terrorism, and hold accountable those who fund terrorism, particularly the Saudi and Qatari regimes.

“All those who want to work faithfully to resolve the crisis in Syria, respect its sovereignty, fight terrorism with it, and annuls boycotting it can participate in the talks,” he said, adding that there’s no role for those who support, arm, and fund terrorists.

The talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana are due to be held on January 23rd with the aiming of helping to push forward with the political settlement of the crisis in Syria.
