Damascus, SANA – The Central Workers Theatre Festival, organized by the General Federation of Trade Unions, kicked off on Sunday at the Federation’s theatre in Damascus, with the participation of six acting companies comprised of workers from different provinces.
The festival was opened by a dance performance by Jullanar theatrical dance troupe and a poetry recital, followed by the first play of the festival which was titled “the Guests.”
The play, adapted by Juan Jan from a script for a play by Reginald Denham and Edward Percy, tells the story of an old lady living with her maid who convinces the old lady to allow her to bring her daughters to live with them in her fancy isolated home, and as the play goes on the owner becomes the guest in her own house while the guests become the master, with the maid plotting to kill the old lady and take over her home and property.
The festival continues on Monday with a play by members of Homs Trade Union based on the works of the late writer Mohammad al-Maghout.
