Amnesty International criticizes US-led coalition airstrikes in Syria

London, SANA – Amnesty International criticized the US-led international coalition air strikes in Syria under the pretext of fighting the ISIS terrorist organization which claimed the lives of a number of civilians.

Lynn Maalouf, deputy director for research at Amnesty International’s Beirut office said “It’s high time the US authorities come clean about the full extent of the civilian damage caused by coalition attacks in Syria.”

“We fear the US-led coalition is significantly underestimating the harm caused to civilians in its operations in Syria,” Maalouf added.

She went on to say that “Analysis of available evidence suggests that in each of these cases, coalition forces failed to take adequate precautions to minimize harm to civilians and damage to civilian objects.”

“Some of these attacks may constitute disproportionate or otherwise indiscriminate attacks,” Maalouf said

French war planes of the US-led international coalition killed more than 120 civilians and injured tens of others in airstrikes on the village of Toukhan al-Kubra last July.

Last week, Belgium warplanes attacked the village of Hassadjek in Aleppo province, killing six civilians and injuring four others.

The Coalition’s war planes also targeted one of the Syrian Arab Army sites in the surroundings of Deir Ezzor airport, paving the way for the ISIS terrorists to seize control over the site.

The aircrafts of the US-led international coalition raided several key bridges over the
Euphrates River in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, resulting in the destruction of the bridges, and therefore disconnecting the areas located on both banks of the river.

In 2014, coalition aircrafts destroyed two electricity plants in al-Radwaniyeh area and water pumping stations in al-Khafseh area, east of Aleppo, claiming hundreds of civilian lives.
