New York, SANA- New Zealand’s draft resolution on Syria does not match with Russia’s conceptual approaches, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said.
The chances of New Zealand’s draft resolution on the Syrian city of Aleppo going forward at the UN Security Council are still unclear, Churkin told reporters after holding informal Security Council consultations on Monday.
“So far the prospects are unclear. Not even regarding the adoption but also regarding further work,” Churkin stated. “We have our conceptual approaches and the text of the draft does not match them”.
After holding informal Security Council consultations, New Zealand Ambassador to the United Nations Gerard van Bohemen told reporters that UN Security Council members still need to discuss the main paragraph of the draft.
Van Bohemen also noted that so far there has been no progress regarding the draft resolution’s main paragraph, and New Zealand is making efforts to see if it could bring the UN Security Council members closer on the issue.
New Zealand’s draft resolution calls for an immediate end to all attacks, particularly the airstrikes on Aleppo city.
Russia and the Syrian Government repeatedly announced, during the past months, commitment to the cessation of hostilities, but the terrorist organizations have always violated the agreement upon orders of the sponsoring countries.
The latest the 3-day humanitarian pause in Aleppo, which started on October 20th and was extended for additional 24 hours in response to the UN and other international organizations’ request, was also breached by the terrorist organizations.
