Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday that accusations regarding Russia’s military operations in Syria aim at barring the attention of the International community from the repercussions of the process of the restoration of the Iraqi city of al-Mosul, backed by international coalition.
TASS news agency quoted Zakharova as saying to Russia 1 TV that all this feverish media campaign against Russia over the past few weeks maybe came to pave the way for horrible operations that might take place in al-Mosul City, adding that a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe could occur taking into account the influx of displaced populations.
She noted that the surrounding areas of al-Mousel have been burned and we know those involved in doing so, wondering which party will hold the responsibility for civilians whose only desire is to flee the city.
Earlier on the day, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Moscow sees a big contradiction between US statements about its obligations to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria and its efforts on the ground to achieve this end.
