Lattakia, SANA – Governor of Lattakia Ibrahim Khodr al-Salem discussed on Wednesday with Dr. Bassel al-Yousifi, head of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, and the delegation accompanying him means to enhance joint cooperation in the field of environmental and health sanitation.
The Governor called for drafting realistic studies of projects that can be implemented on the ground in the field of health and the environment in accordance with the priorities of Lattakia province, which is providing services for double the amount of its inhabitants due to the increasing number of the arrivals from other provinces as a result of terrorist attacks, which puts pressure on all the basic utilities of water, electricity, and health.
In turn, al-Yousifi revealed that the WHO will supply Lattakia with 64 chlorine testing devices, 50 of which will be distributed to 50 health centers, 12 for the province’ areas, and 2 for the central laboratory at Lattakia National Hospital.
For their part, the delegation members said the WHO will provide the Governorate with an additional vehicle for collecting medical waste.
The members pointed out that during their visit to the National Hospital, they noticed a shortage in some medical equipment, saying that the WHO will evaluate the needs of the hospital and will offer assistance.
