Damascus, SANA – The Chinese Embassy in Damascus held on Thursday evening a reception ceremony to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 60th anniversary of establishing the Syrian-Chinese diplomatic ties.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Najah al-Attar, senior Baath Party officials, People’s Assembly Speaker Hadiyeh Abbas, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban and a number of ministers and MPs.
The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin said that China and Syria have supported each other in confronting imperialism, the colonialist forces and all schemes targeting the national independence of both countries, adding that bilateral cooperation and exchange continued even after the eruption of the crisis in Syria.
The Chinese Ambassador asserted that China supports Syria’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and defend it sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, pointing out that his country is getting ready to play a bigger and special role in finding a solution to the crisis in Syria and in providing more humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
Qi added that the Chinese government insists that the political solution is the only way to get out of the crisis in Syria, stressing the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the Syrian people’s right to determine their country’s future.
For his part, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan said that the support provided by friendly countries like Russia, China, Iran and other countries that believe in real democracy has enhanced the Syrians’ steadfastness and helped them withstand the terrorist war waged against Syria.
Sousan continued to say that Syria appreciates China’s support in confronting the ongoing terrorist aggression against it, stressing that his country’s supportive stances reflect the deep relations between the two countries.
