New York, SANA-Syria’s permanent envoy to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari said on Tuesday that “the basic responsibility to protect from crimes is the function of the states concerned and the goal of the basic idea of the protection responsibility is to boost sovereignty of the countries, not undermining them.”
Al-Jaafari added during an unofficial interactive dialogue about the responsibility to protect (RToP), that the bad application of the “responsibility to protect” in Libya changed these countries into a focus for the international extremism and a center for exporting terrorism to many countries, including Syria.
He affirmed that the use of the terms like (non-state armed groups) doesn’t change the reality that ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, Feteh al-Cham Front, Jaish al-Fateh and other affiliated terrorist organizations are terrorist entities confronted by the Syrian state.
Al-Jaafari went on to say that the notion of responsibility for protection has lost its credibility as a result of politicization and the trends of hegemony.
He clarified that the latest report of the UN Secretary General about responsibility to protect didn’t mention the Israeli continued occupation of the Arab lands, this occupation that forms the humanitarian dilemma which deserves concern in regards to the notion of protection.
“The events in Syria can’t be described as civil war as thousands of foreign terrorists have entered Syria through neighboring countries, al-Jaafari said.
He concluded by affirming that the Syrian government is going ahead in performing its constitutional duties and responsibilities in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as protecting the safety of its citizens through confronting the terrorist organizations.
