Tartous, SANA – Activities of “Tartous Summer Festival 2016” kicked off Thursday on the Seafront Corniche of Tartous city.
The festival is organized by Tartous Governorate in cooperation with Tourism Directorate and the Craftsmen Union in the province.
Addressing the audience at the opening ceremony, deputy chairman of the executive office at the Governorate Council, Ali Hammad, said that the Governorate provides all support required to organize such festivals and events on a regular basis as they reflect the Syrian civilization and convey a message to the whole world that the Syrian people insist on resisting terrorism and standing steadfast despite all challenges and difficult circumstances.
For his part, Director of Tartous Tourism Directorate, Yazan al-Sheikh said that the festival crowns a successful summer tourist season, stressing that the Directorate has worked hard to promote and shed light on the tourist product in the province.
On the sidelines of the festival, and exhibition for handicrafts and rural women’s products, a rose show and a photo exhibition for 37 craftsmen were also opened.
Pyrographic paintings, ancient jewelry, heritage antiques, copper items, straw and silk industries, traditional costumes, stamps, books and old tilling tools were showcased at the exhibition.
The festival lasts till next Saturday. It offers a variety of activities such as a trip to Arwad Island, a boat show, the Heritage House, a village weeding, a bike race and a theatrical show by the Phoenix Bird group.
