Law exempts owners of illegally-imported cellular phones from fines and liability upon paying fees

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday issued law no. 20 for 2016 on exempting owners of illegally-imported cellular phones from fines and legal liability if they declare them and pay the ensuing fees.

The law stipulates that those who declare their possession of new cellular phones and devices that were imported or brought into the country illegally are exempted from any legal liability and fines if they declare their devices to the Customs General Directorate and pay the ensuing fees according to the value of the devices as set by the Directorate.

The executive instructions of the law will be issued by the Finance Minister, and the law will be effective for three months as of its date of publication on 03/08/2016.
