Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry asserted the necessity of concentrating on the start of the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva without any preconditions.
The ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday “The Russian side represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov emphasized, during the consultations held on Wednesday and Tuesday in Geneva with the representatives of the United Nations and the United States, the need to launch a dialogue among Syrians as soon as possible without any preconditions.”
The statement pointed out that the “UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura suggested next August as a tentative time for convening the next round of talks.”
The statement stated that the “consultations indicated that it is unacceptable to make the start of the talks dependent on artificial preconditions and to impose on Syrians settlement solutions from the outside,” emphasizing that “only the Syrian parties should be involved in agreeing the parameters of Syrian statehood at inclusive talks.”
The Russian side, according to the statement, reminded that “the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic has already agreed to take part in the talks and emphasized the importance of an inclusive delegation from the Syrian opposition, which should include Kurdish representatives as well as all other opponents,” hailing the constructive approaches adopted by the Syrian government and its seeking for a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis in Syria.
The statement clarified that the Russian-US-UN consultations in Geneva witnessed “a detailed exchange of opinions on the continued efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, in which intra-Syrian talks in Geneva should play a central role.”
