Damascus, SANA – Minister of State for Environment Affairs Nazira Sarkis discussed on Wednesday with resident representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Syria Eriko Hibi and an accompanying delegation the environmental situation in Syria and the plans of the government to reduce pollution and provide farmers with supplies.
The Minister affirmed that the government continues to support agricultural production and seeks to develop it as much as possible, and this is in parallel with its work to preserve and protect the environment from deterioration and promote the use of renewable energy instead of fossil fuels to reduce pollution.
She pointed out that the government seeks to provide the necessary supplies to farmers such as seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, and feed and to help launch small and medium projects to support rural communities and encourage them to stay in their areas, in addition to support traditional industries.
In turn, Hibi said that the FAO team will conduct field visits to the provinces of Hama, Homs, Tartous, and Sweida and evaluate the crops and the needs of the agricultural sector and food security.
