Updated-Cabinet denies rumors on raising price of bread bundle, sets wheat and barley purchase prices

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi denied rumors that the Cabinet intends to raise the price of the standard bundle of bread or reduce its weight.

During a session on Tuesday, Premier al-Halaqi pointed out that these rumors are part of the economic and media war targeting the national economy and the Syrian State, affirming that there is no shortage of bread as it is available in all provinces.

The Cabinet has set the purchase price of wheat from peasants at SYP 100 per kg and the purchase price of barley at SYP 75 per kg.

Three days ago, the central committee for cereals marketing held a special meeting in which it announced a sum of SYP 100 billion to be allocated for marketing this season’s cereal production.

In the framework of discussing economic and services issues, the Cabinet discussed a bill amending some terms of the law and legislative decree governing the veterinary medicine career and took the necessary measures to complete the bill approval.

The Cabinet also approved decisions to give Damascus Governorate a sum of SYP 1 billion and Tartous Governorate a sum of SYP 700 million from the local revenues added to customs fees to support the two governorates’ independent budgets.
